To honor the life's mission of Angela H. Llewellyn, we seek to empower the next generation of artists and cultural caretakers by providing scholarships to students pursuing college degrees in the arts or library sciences. We are committed to assisting with financial barriers and fostering creative talent, ensuring that passionate individuals can thrive, innovate, and contribute to the cultural richness of our community.
President/Chairman
I was 12 years old when I first met the Llewellyns. Ironically my mom wanted me to do something besides read a book and so she took me to the playhouse in town. I was cast in Peter Pan and I caught the theater bug! I spent the next 6 years with Brack and Angela, on the stage, behind the curtain, and traveling with the stage! After high school our friendship really blossomed. I became a member of Nonesuch playmakers, and my kids became some of Angela’s Deweys. These years singing and preforming with Angela have brought me so much joy. Angela’s spirit lives on in all of us who shared the stage with her. Her compassion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the arts and children is what drove us to create this scholarship. I just hope I can be of as much service to my community as she was to hers.
Vice President
I hope, as a member of the Board of this Foundation, to honor Angela’s memory as my friend, and her passions as a leader of ‘the Dewey’s’, a love of reading, theatre, music, writing, storytelling, and young people and their hopes and dreams.
Secretary/Treasurer
Angela, more than any other adult save my parents, shaped the person I am today. She gave me my first torn copy of a Stephen King book, kicking off a lifetime love of the writer and all things spooky. She adopted me into not one but two theatre groups: her beloved Dewey Decimal Players at the Public Library, as well as her Nonesuch Playmakers group. She gave my teenage years a clear direction and my adult years a clear purpose. I would not be where I am today without her encouragement, love, and guidance.

I had the privilege and joy of teaching Angela and watching her grow into someone who used her knowledge and talents to change the lives of young people. Her love of the written word, her dramatic gifts, and her incredible strength in the face of her illness are encompassed in this scholarship. Peter Strople wrote: "Legacy is not about leaving something for people. It's about leaving something in people." Angela will live on in those who follow.

I will always remember Angela's last visit to our home and the meal she, Brack, my wife and I had together. She was thinking of the future and all she wanted to accomplish. This scholarship honors her hopes, dreams, and courage. To pass on her love of reading, writing, and drama to a deserving student honors her memory.

I met Angela when we were both cast in a local show. I was in middle school, and she was far older and cooler. But she took note of me, got to know me, encouraged me and helped me to navigate that show and many more. After that, we were friends for life, and her support, interest, curiosity, and encouragement only continued. She loved history (and was better read about Tudor England than many PhD candidates in the field), books (she was voracious and always had brilliant recommendations), and baking (her cakes and cookies were legendary). Most of all, though, she loved acting and storytelling and the way that they allowed people to come into their own, to individuate and thrive in whatever field they felt called to pursue. I am thrilled that this scholarship continues Angela's legacy.

I got the theater bug in high school in the early 90's, and it was there that I met Brack and Angela Llewellyn. They led me to community theater and we became instant friends. Angela loved theater and all forms of art. She loved costuming every show down to the finest detail. She was a seasoned actress, beautiful singer, and loved passing on her love for the arts to the next generation. Through the Dewey Decimal Players at the library, she molded dozens of young people into lovers of theater and reading. I had the pleasure of calling Angela my friend, my co-worker, and my fellow NoneSucher in our local theater group. I look forward to continuing her legacy through this scholarship foundation.

I first met Angela in 1987. We quickly became best friends. We shared a love of dancing, music, movies and reading. We became involved in community theatre where she would meet the love of her life, Brack Llewellyn. Once Brack and Angela united, they became a dream team of creativity. She honed her acting skills and blossomed into a performer, mentor, and community leader for the arts. She loved encouraging our youth to excel with the talents they possessed. She was a guiding light to so many. To keep her light shining, this scholarship fund was created. Whoever is awarded this scholarship, know that you being smiled down upon by an angel, who once walked in your shoes.

To know Angela was to love her and love her spirit. I met Angela many years ago when my daughter did a show with the Dewey Decimals. The way she loved the kids was so evident. If you ever got the opportunity to see the kids perform you were blessed. The number of youth that Angela touched in her years at the Mount Airy Library and through the Dewey Decimals players is endless. Let us not forget her love of cooking and sharing her sweet treats. Angela and Brack, her partner in life and in crime, was such a loving couple that worked together so seamlessly with children and adults. Their relationship was a road map for others to follow. I hope that whomever receives this scholarship knows that Angela will be looking down upon them and smiling knowing that you are following a path of the arts. I’m honored to be a part of this diverse AHLF board that will help her memory live on.
